Festival Das Filmfest: The Glory of Life (Die Herrlichkeit des Lebens)

„The Glory of Life“ (Die Herrlichkeit des Lebens), a film portrait of Franz Kafka's last year of his life, opens this year's festival of German-speaking films Das Filmfest 100 years after his death. The touching film adaptation of the German-Austrian production is based on the best-selling book of the same name by Michael Kumpfmüller.

The poetic drama depicts Franz Kafka's last relationship. At a seaside spa on the Baltic Sea, the ailing writer meets Dora Diamant, with whom he later moves to Berlin and who will nurse him until his death. Henriette Confucius (as Dora Diamant) and Sabin Tambrea (as Franz Kafka) shine as lovers, but Kafka's literary work, his strong self-criticism and his strained relationship with his father are also addressed.

PRAHA: Georg Maas, who wrote the screenplay together with Michael Gutmann and directed the film together with Judith Kaufmann, will present the film in person at the opening of the Prague Film Festival on October 16th at Kino Lucerna.

BRNO: The film will be shown at the opening of the festival in Brno on October 22nd in Kino Art.

The festival of German-speaking films Das Filmfest is taking place for the 18th time this year. The annual film showcase presents the latest award-winning films across genres from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Discussions with filmmakers and screenings for schools in the mornings are an integral part of the programme. This year's edition also offers an accompanying industry programme for the first time. All films will be shown in their original version with Czech subtitles. The festival is jointly organised by the Goethe-Institut in the Czech Republic, the Austrian Cultural Forum Prague and the Swiss Embassy in the Czech Republic.
