Program
To mark the 100th anniversary of Franz Kafka's death, the Austrian Cultural Forum Prague is organising a thematically appropriate concert. Soprano Kaoko Amano and violinist Marianna Oczkowska will present the song cycle Kafka-Fragmente op. 24 by Hungarian composer György Kurtág. The work, which was written between 1985 and 1987, is based on diaries and letters by the famous Prague writer. The cycle consists of four parts, which are divided into 39 short movements. Kafka Fragments are among the most important works of contemporary chamber music today.
The concert is part of the conference programme of the Johann Gottfried Herder Research Council Franz Kafka Intermedial. Appropriations and Effects Between Image, Sound and Word.
The German scholar Prof. Alice Stašková, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, co-editor of the anthology „Franz Kafka und die Musik“ (2018), will give an introduction to the concert.
The discussion Kafkas Mitteleuropa - Mitteleuropa bei Kafka, which will conclude the conference, will take place at the Austrian Cultural Forum from 18:00. The author Jan Faktor, the Czech ambassador to Berlin Tomáš Kafka and the writer Pavla Horáková will take part in the discussion. The event will be moderated by historian and writer Peter Becher.
The event will be held exclusively in German.
Please confirm your participation in the concert and/or the discussion by 2 June 2024 at prag-kf@bmeia.gv.at.
