Nicolas Mahler: „Kafka komisch“ (Kafka funny)

The Austrian comic artist Nicolas Mahler has worked intensively on the world-famous Prague author Franz Kafka (1883–1924). The result is „Komplett Kafka“, a drawn biography in book form and an exhibition of the same name – just in time for the Kafka Year 2024. At the opening, Nicolas Mahler will talk about his Kafka and his work as an illustrator and editor with the director of the Literaturhaus Tomas Friedmann, while images will be shown via projector.

In both the book and the show, Mahler presents the whole of Kafka in a pointed way: life, work, background and – his biggest laughs. The book „Kafka für Boshafte“ (Kafka for the Malicious; Insel Verlag, 2023), also selected and drawn by Nicolas Mahler, fits in perfectly with this. The well-known Austrian film and theater actor, radio play narrator and cabaret artist Wolfram Berger will read some astonishingly amusing Kafka texts from the book. He will be accompanied musically by violin virtuoso and composer Toni Burger, who has played with Konstantin Wecker, Georg Danzer and Ostbahn-Kurti, among others, and frequently performs as a duo with Otto Lechner.
