Program
Knowledge of Kafka's work is usually based on a very narrow selection of his texts. For literary connoisseurs, the thought of Kafka also conjures up mainly nightmares. A completely different, more varied picture emerges when we include Kafka's numerous literary fragments, diaries and letters. His linguistic productivity developed in all of these genres, and it is only by looking at the whole that many aspects that are actually considered incompatible with his ascetic and gloomy nimbus become visible. This applies above all to the sense of comedy that appears in almost every conceivable variety in Kafka's work. The programme takes us through Kafka's vast and intricate legacy. We will discover an author who clearly enjoys playing with forms, ideas and points. The original texts will be read by Harald Kersten.
