Program
Short prose is an idiosyncratic genre, as it includes narrative texts as well as aphoristic and essayistic miniatures. Its appeal lies in the „compulsion“ to concentrate: while events, character constellations and the narrated world can be coloured in a longer narrative, in a short prose text, omissions and allusions must be worked with so precisely that an accessible reading is possible. You could also say that a successful short prose text is not finished even after reading it.
We will approach the topic using selected examples, including the wonderfully intricate short stories „Odradek“ and „Wunsch, Indianer zu werden“ by Franz Kafka, the 100th anniversary of whose death is being commemorated this year.
