In the last days of his life in 1924, Franz Kafka was no longer allowed to speak, so he wrote down what he wanted to say on slips of paper. These texts, with brief outlines of everyday communication and typical linguistic images of Kafka, are documents of pain and illness and hint at his approaching death. They form the core and starting point of the exhibition The Last Days of Franz Kafka.

The exhibition, curated by Elisabeth Schafzahl and Philipp Wegan, creates a dialogue between art and literature. A map edition (Verlag Bibliothek der Provinz) with texts by Manfred Müller (Austrian Franz Kafka Society), Willi Bergthaler (Johannes Kepler University Linz) and Pavel Schmidt (co-editor of the book Zeichnungen von Franz Kafka/Drawing of Franz Kafka) will be published to accompany the exhibition.

Peter Angerer, Franz Blaas, Maryam Farhang, Josef Fürpaß, Anna Goldgruber, Richard Jurtitsch, Brigitte Lang, Georg Lebzelter, Franziska Maderthaner, Nicolas Mahler, Elisabeth Schafzahl, Pavel Schmidt, Erhard Stöbe, Ida Szigethy and Philipp Wegan have selected texts from the Zettelwerk to add to their own works.
