On the occasion of this year's 100th Kafka anniversary, a professional and cultural programme will be held dedicated to Prague's German-speaking authors around Franz Kafka. On the basis of the
The importance of the South Bohemian region for the life and work of these authors will be explained in the specialist lectures and the accompanying cultural programme.
All contributions will be simultaneously interpreted (German-Czech).
The International Literary Symposium Kafka's South Bohemia is dedicated to the German-language authors of Prague and Franz Kafka and their connection with South Bohemia, which has received little attention to date. On the occasion of this year's 100th anniversary of Kafka's birth, the importance of the region for the life and work of these authors will be explored in presentations by domestic and foreign experts.

International meeting with an accompanying cultural programme in the place where the writer and one of the most important members of the Prague Circle Johannes Urzidil worked - the border town of Glöckelberg. Guided tours, readings and a photographic lecture will be used to explain the significance of the now-defunct villages of Glöckelberg and Josefsthal for Urzidil's life and work.
A bus seat from Budweis / Krumau / Oberplan can be reserved.

Excursion in the footsteps of the ancestors of one of the world's most important writers to Osek near Strakonic with explanations by the writer Alena Wagnerová. A six-kilometre walk takes participants to places associated with Franz Kafka's roots. During the walk, there will be an opportunity to see the house where Kafka's father Hermann was born and to visit the otherwise inaccessible castle in Osek, which may have served as the inspiration for the world-famous novel. The Jewish cemetery on the hill above Osek, where Kafka's ancestors are buried, will also be visited.
The explanations will be interpreted simultaneously (German-Czech).

The event was funded by the Czech-German Future Fund and is being organised as part of České Budějovice - European Capital of Culture 2028 and the Kafka2024 platform. The project partners include the Adalbert Stifter Association Munich, the cultural festival Přechody/Übergänge Gmünd/České Velenice, the literature festival Šumava Litera, Museum Fotoatelier Seidel Český Krumlov, Adalbert Stifter Birthplace Oberplan/Horní Planá, Goethe Centrum České Budějovice, Dreiländerverein České Budějovice.
