Pavel Kořínek: Kafka in comics

Franz Kafka's texts are among the most frequent subjects of comic adaptations of literary works, and the sequential image-text works that are produced in this way offer a wide range of adaptation approaches and interpretative solutions, from uninventive and slavish rewriting through paraphrase or parody to very loose media transpositions that go beyond the mere capture of the pretext; a specific subcategory is represented by comics „about Kafka“. In several probes, the lecture will attempt to look at and work out a working relationship between the various variants of „Kafkaesque Kafkas in comics“ and „Kafkaesque Kafkas in comics“, with special attention paid to some of the more significant works by Olivier Deprez, Peter Kuper and the Nishioka siblings.

Lecturer: Pavel Kořínek (ÚČL)
