Coffee with Kafka

Coffee table for all on the occasion of Kafka's birthday with pastries according to Dr. Lahmann's theory of nutrition

A governess of Kafka's sisters passed on the following information about Kafka's culinary preferences:

During my one-year stay with the Kafka family, not once did anyone fall ill, everyone seemed to have iron health. Nevertheless, Franz went to Dresden and saw a doctor, Dr. Lahmann, in the ‚Weißer Hirsch‘ district. After his return, I made him a Gugelhupf every week according to Dr. Lahmann's recipe. Nobody else got it. I still have the recipe for this Gugelhupf in my head today: 25 kg of sugar was grated onto the zest of an orange and a lemon, the powdered sugar had to be sieved well so that no lumps remained. Then six egg yolks were added and everything was stirred thoroughly for half an hour. Then a little lemon juice was poured in and cornflour the weight of two raw eggs was stirred in, to which the very firm snow of six egg whites was added, and the dough was slowly baked in a tin greased with butter and finely dusted with flour.

The Gladhouse Association cordially invites all interested parties to this afternoon with a Gugelhupft test and discussions about Franz Kafka in the open air. Kafka biographer Reiner Stach will also be a guest.

Admission is free.
